Olive tree and Olive oil
The official name of Olive tree is Olea Europea Sativa and was founded in the Mediterranean.
The Olive tree can reach height up to 10 meters and is adapted to Mediterranean climate treaty (long, dry and hot summer but also at temperatures that are close to 0°C).
In Mediterranean, the trees bloom between April and May and the harvesting starts late November and ends in February in the southern regions.
Olive oil is a very healthy oil because it is completely natural, it’s the main source of fat in Mediterranean diet and is absorbed by the body almost by 100%. Keep in mind that 9.3gr of other vegetable oils have the same number of calories that included in 1gr of olive oil.
A proper and balanced diet contains olive oil daily but the usage must be sparingly!
Olive oil helps:
- reducing “bad” cholesterol (LDL) in blood
- maintaining the content of the blood in “good” cholesterol (HDL)
- in preventing cardiovascular diseases and protect the body from coronary heart disease (because of powerful antioxidants it contains)
- in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, as it eases digestion
- to the proper functioning of the bowel
- reducing gastric fluid
- better absorption of calcium from the body
- the correct metabolism of diabetics and consequently the equilibrium price of sugar
- in cancer prevention
- refreshing your skin
We can keep the oil 12-18 months as long as we store it in well-sealed amber bottles or stainless steel containers, at room temperature (10°C-15°C) to avoid contact with light and air.
But apart from cooking, Olive oil is also used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, soaps and as a fuel for traditional oil lamps.
