INGREDIENTS FOR THE DOUGH
- 6 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup margarine
- 1 cup olive oil
INGREDIENTS FOR THE FILLING
- 2 cups chopped walnuts
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon (powder)
- 1/2 tablespoon cloves (powder)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
INGREDIENTS FOR THE SYRUP
- 2 cups sugar
- 2.5 cups water
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
METHOD
- In a bowl mix all the ingredients of the filling.
- In a large bowl, sift the flour.
- Add the salt and the baking powder and make a hole in the middle.
- Add there the rest of the dough ingredients and mix gently until the materials homogenized and make a soft dough.
- Divide the dough into 4 pieces and then each piece into 8 balls.
- Roll one of the little balls and add in the middle 1 teaspoon of filling and fold to form a triangle.
- Bake in preheated oven at 180oC for 35′-45′ until golden brown.
- Leave them to cool and make some holes in the surface with a thick needle.
- In a saucepan add the ingredients for the syrup and boil them for 6′.
- Reduce heat and add in 3-4 içli and boil them for 3 minutes.
- Place them on a platter and cover with plastic wrap so they do not dry out.
TIP: If the syrup is not enough after 3-4 times, add a little water, let the mixture boil for 5 minutes and continue the process.

looks so delicious;)
Yum..it looks fantastic and perfect! I just love it!
Wow, I’ve never seen Içli before, but I already love it!! Looks incredibly tasty!!!
These sound lovely. Walnuts, spices… who could want more?
How do you pronounce that name “Içli” ?
it’s something like “itsli”…
Sounds amazing. These remind me of an Italian pastry my mom makes. Wish I could spell it. I love walnuts, I don’t use them nearly enough in baking. I usually head for almonds or hazelnuts, what a nice change.
